united states

it's barack! he is what the generation needs, even if it's just the facade.

not so familiar with biden, but the sight of palin makes me sick.

i wonder when the economy will pick up (it'll take years i believe) and not hear sighs so every now and then from the kopitiam tables next to me. everything was dandy and then, crashed! nowadays, the only green people talk about is the greenback.

got myself 3 new books (nassim taleb & warren buffett). i bought 5 on a whim, when i was browsing the airport bookstore with my bro whilst waiting for my parents' flight to arrive. i am most glad to sacrifice my clothes budget if my bro actually showed his interest in books - to the extent of committing himself to one should i buy for him. i plonked the books, along with his 2 picks on the counter before he could change his mind. i would get him more, but i decided not to tempt with his fragile & mild interest in reading by my being zealous.

jingle in the air

over dinner last night at the airport, the girls started making plans for christmas. suggestions, valid or wild flew across the table. mainly the choices are havin fun indoor or party out.

while things look like they will take a while before they settle, talking about holiday cheers the spirit like good ol' christmas does every year. christmas is warmth loved ones are love and presents are joy.

i'm feeling a little bit of christmas jingle in me each day already!

i asked him today.

i asked him today when he told me "i love you," how he knows it's love.

he said it is a feeling.

i asked him if he loved someone else before,
he said no.

i asked him if he hadn't, how would he know this is love?
he said he knows it when he's with me.

i asked him how he knows the feeling is love?
he said it's the feeling of willing to make sacrifices and wanting to spend many many years with a person.

i said "me too."

to fall in love and get married with your loved one, isn't that a most normal wish?

the future looks bleak. it's blur.
so much uncertainty.
there's only so much time left.
there's only so much time left to wait.

which one is nice?

nothing irks me more than a bad haircut. worst if it is a bad haircut gone too short. i get very cranky. sigh. i miss my fussfree days where my hair always fall into good hands. these days my luck with stylists seemed to turn bad. last night over supper, i commented on one of my male friend's hair. looks great on him and i thought maybe i can get to try his stylist. turns out the stylist is one who is home-based after years working at a pretty well-known salon in SG. and it turns out that most of my friends present at the table visits the stylist, and even their girlfriends, through word-of-mouth. seems like i really have to give the stylist a try, i hope i've found my saviour!

singapore biennale - south beach

first few pictures from the singapore biennale at south beach from the past week. i had no idea of the building's existence till biennale chose this as one of their premises for exhibitions. the premise had seen better days as a police camp, if i remember correctly. slated for some eco stuff for the future.

this swing is assembled with fluorescent light tubes. connected to two motors within the ceiling, it appears to swing by itself. spooked me when it appeared in the corner of my eye as i entered the room.

been to some of the rest at other venues, pictures will be up some time later.

was caught in the heavy rain today. it eventually led me to walk around and take some pictures around the Formula 1 track and grandstand. pictures up soon!

did anyone catch the dramatic final on sunday? punters who placed their bets on alonso are probably laughing their way speedfast to the banks. he almost switched positions with massa, although it was by a most unexpected twist of fate. i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw massa rip off the fuel pipe. i am by no means a F1 fan. the hype caught up with me only recently, rightfully, for this F1 is a big deal for Singapore. and i must admit it is kinda enjoyable and thrilling. so when that damn pipe tore off and whipped a guy along, the thought of an explosion did flash through my mind. that wouldn't go down well for the world's first night race, no?

i am immensely proud of SG. the skyline is impeccable. a jewel it is indeed. in my view, part of its magic lies in the time difference. the time difference between SG and European countries made the beautiful night skyline appears even more enchanting than it already was when it appear on their TV screens in the day faraway across the globe. the cars and the whole race did appear nicer in the night too. you see how those cars gleem? very photogenic. i happened to be around days before the race when the lights were up for testing. even the taxis, buses and vans shone like proud new vehicles under the lightings.

here, the excitement doesn't just die away with the advancement and moving on of the grand prix.
here, the future is buzzing.

mid-autumn festival

chinese around the world celebrated mid-autumn festival last sunday. it's on the 15th of every eighth month on the lunar calendar. on this day, mooncakes are the traditional food exchanged, the moon is supposed to be the fullest too (i took the above picture days later, though). one of my favourite festival in the calendar-kinda romantic isn't it, a night with the fullest moon.

some celebration/performance event at a temple i went with my mum. performers decked out in extravangance costumes, belting out tunes to a really huge crowd. free food and lanterns too.

the man with feathers did some costume-changing really speedily and re-appeared as the clown. he later changed into a policeman. the little girl, she's only four.

这次总算make the move了。

Google CHROME

downloaded and tried the new baby of Google.

i think it still looks shaky and sent all those beta vibes throughout.

loading was exceptionally slow for sites which loaded in a jiffy with IE 7.0
some sites have their layouts thrown about the page
In cognito is the one shiny tool that shone among its competitors, however selecting the option is can be more intuitive

personally, i do not like the prompts while i'm typing on the address bar. it feels like i'm .. tracked.. although even if they do not show it in CHROME, we all know Google probably knows more about us than our neighbours do through all the tracking of our cyber carbon footprints that we did not see.

for something more superficial, the interface is nothing to shout about. in fact it looks unattractive.

given the brief try out, verdict is that i will stick to IE before something attractive about CHROME manages to pry me from IE to readapt to a new browser. userfriendliness is extremely important in browsers, for they go a long way.

anything revolunationary?

can be improved. and knowing Google, will be improved.

Optical illusion

this is amazing!

An optical illusion on colors, take note of the colour of background A and background B, the Grey color of both A and B appears to be different. One slightly darker than the other, or so it seems to be. Is it really different in term of tone?

The truth is, both A and B are of same color, take a look at the Grey strip that run across both the checker board boxes. Our mind is playing tricks with us.

initially i didn't trust the grey strip.

i thought maybe there was a gradient or something to blend in 2 shades of A and B. so i saved the first pict, open with Paint, and cropped out a part of A.

then i placed the crop beside B - viola! they are exactly the same!

even after my little experiment to prove they are the same, everytime i look at the pict, it still appears to me that A and B are just two very different tones!

amazing!

comex

went to comex with bong today, since my library items are due today and i'll have to make a trip to city hall anyway. 5 floors of IT galore - imagine the temptations of whipping out the plastic and cash to buy up all the uber cool gadgets i covet! withholding temptations is not something i am good at. i succumb to pretty colours, extra specs, nifty features, useless aesthetics... which explains why this is only my second time to comex, cos i know i will definitely walk out a pauper!

this is why bong was there with me, to STOP me if i stray my hands on other things. haha. this time round, i need an external HDD. backing-up on DVDs has always been my mantra, cos DVDs hardly ever die, unless you crack them of course. but as my lappie ages, i find it safer to have a quick back-up to a HDD first. oh, maybe i will get a new lappie next comex. haha.

got this sleek Western Digital (WD) 320GB at sgd169. and i'm doing the back-up now as i type. able to run softwares from it too (i think. the booth was too noisy i couldn't hear the sales guy.)

there are many pretty colours but the 320GB only has silver. UGH

i am sure they are so going to slash the price down on sunday last day. and i'm gonna read all about the wonderful bargains (better than mine) other people will grab. but the thought of the crowdiness is sucha huge turn off!

collected my TLR camera. something got jammed up inside and the shutter failed to work on wed. i sent it to steven and he went shaking his head. "aiyo you ah, spool went missing then now shutter spoiled." i feel so lousy man. he kept reminding me to take good care of the camera, "宝来的咧". i didn't even know how the shutter got knocked (according to him it suffered a knock so therefore it got jammed). most of the time i'd rather carry my own bag even if it's motherly heavy because i think i am more cautious than bong in preventing knocks. looks like i have to be even more careful now. steven did a great job anyway.

am going to bring the camera out soon to snap snap snap!! ;)

DEATH RACE

this movie is the shit!

it's so raw and sets your heart racing. i was constantly on the edge of my seat, never wanna miss any bit of the action. burning tyres, flaming cars and very generous bloody scenes. the male lead has an unbelievably hot bod. very man.

the plot is great too.

bong and i weren't even aware of this movie, we just decided to watch a movie and pick one from what's available. turned out to be a fantastic choice.
if this thrills even a girl, i believe most guys probably will enjoy it too.

a new 120mm addiction

i collected my first roll of 120 film from the lab today. i kept thinking about, so anxious to see the photos taken by my vintage Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) camera! i'm glad most frames turned out decent, not grossly over or under exposed. and the vignettes are so yummy. very eager to get my second roll going soon.

very confused by the brands of film available. i have no idea how to tell which brands are better!

oh i took the camera to 8Q Sam too. here's L leaving his mark on the chalkboard wall.

mini classroom

outside CPF building. i love the musky smell of the super old camera. vintage freak!

the colorful orbs together with the gurgling from the water fountain makes a soothing scene.

this is freakin cool!

8Q SAM

headed down to this new contemporary art museum with a few friends this afternoon. and it had to rain when i forgot my umbrella again.

exterior of the building.
colours would have turned out nicer if it was a bright sunny afternoon. also, this was taken with my camera phone. i didn't want to risk bringing my dear camera out in such a rain!

L pretending to seize a video girl.
quotes on the chalk walls of the miniature classroom. interesting stuff people write!
photos are really crappy. how i wished i had been more diligent to bring my camera out with care. i went "if only...if only" when i see my friends happily snapping away with their cameras.
J said, "all photographers are voyeurs." how true.
a piece from "black is my last weapon" exhibition by Masriadi. some dark humour he has.
apparently the artist likes batman.

and this is one of my fav. LOL.

indeed, contemporary is the name of the game here. it's worth a visit especially since it's free till 29 August. there are more exhibits actually, but i didn't take photos of all. actually some galleries do not allow phototaking, but it seemed to us some of the minders aren't too strict about it. they see a camera hanging around your neck, they tell you no phototaking. but that's about it!

http://www.nhb.gov.sg/SAM/8Q-Rate.htm

很有万里晴空的感觉。

this space is white like a blank canvas. almost.

which is kinda what i had in mind for the journal shift. i had like my old journal, but what makes me shift here were some of the people who read it. a friends-only journal don't make much sense on the WWW to me. came to a point where a new place will be what i need, like a breather.

which may not be a bad thing afterall.

as a result, i have no idea now how i should re-introduce this space to people.

there are a million ways and one, all new and different and exciting!

in fact, i'm starting to like the idea of being fresh & crisp here.

hello hello.

me and my weird cravings.
