singapore biennale - south beach

first few pictures from the singapore biennale at south beach from the past week. i had no idea of the building's existence till biennale chose this as one of their premises for exhibitions. the premise had seen better days as a police camp, if i remember correctly. slated for some eco stuff for the future.

this swing is assembled with fluorescent light tubes. connected to two motors within the ceiling, it appears to swing by itself. spooked me when it appeared in the corner of my eye as i entered the room.

been to some of the rest at other venues, pictures will be up some time later.

was caught in the heavy rain today. it eventually led me to walk around and take some pictures around the Formula 1 track and grandstand. pictures up soon!

did anyone catch the dramatic final on sunday? punters who placed their bets on alonso are probably laughing their way speedfast to the banks. he almost switched positions with massa, although it was by a most unexpected twist of fate. i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw massa rip off the fuel pipe. i am by no means a F1 fan. the hype caught up with me only recently, rightfully, for this F1 is a big deal for Singapore. and i must admit it is kinda enjoyable and thrilling. so when that damn pipe tore off and whipped a guy along, the thought of an explosion did flash through my mind. that wouldn't go down well for the world's first night race, no?

i am immensely proud of SG. the skyline is impeccable. a jewel it is indeed. in my view, part of its magic lies in the time difference. the time difference between SG and European countries made the beautiful night skyline appears even more enchanting than it already was when it appear on their TV screens in the day faraway across the globe. the cars and the whole race did appear nicer in the night too. you see how those cars gleem? very photogenic. i happened to be around days before the race when the lights were up for testing. even the taxis, buses and vans shone like proud new vehicles under the lightings.

here, the excitement doesn't just die away with the advancement and moving on of the grand prix.
here, the future is buzzing.

mid-autumn festival

chinese around the world celebrated mid-autumn festival last sunday. it's on the 15th of every eighth month on the lunar calendar. on this day, mooncakes are the traditional food exchanged, the moon is supposed to be the fullest too (i took the above picture days later, though). one of my favourite festival in the calendar-kinda romantic isn't it, a night with the fullest moon.

some celebration/performance event at a temple i went with my mum. performers decked out in extravangance costumes, belting out tunes to a really huge crowd. free food and lanterns too.

the man with feathers did some costume-changing really speedily and re-appeared as the clown. he later changed into a policeman. the little girl, she's only four.

这次总算make the move了。

a new 120mm addiction

i collected my first roll of 120 film from the lab today. i kept thinking about, so anxious to see the photos taken by my vintage Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) camera! i'm glad most frames turned out decent, not grossly over or under exposed. and the vignettes are so yummy. very eager to get my second roll going soon.

very confused by the brands of film available. i have no idea how to tell which brands are better!

oh i took the camera to 8Q Sam too. here's L leaving his mark on the chalkboard wall.

mini classroom

outside CPF building. i love the musky smell of the super old camera. vintage freak!

the colorful orbs together with the gurgling from the water fountain makes a soothing scene.

8Q SAM

headed down to this new contemporary art museum with a few friends this afternoon. and it had to rain when i forgot my umbrella again.

exterior of the building.
colours would have turned out nicer if it was a bright sunny afternoon. also, this was taken with my camera phone. i didn't want to risk bringing my dear camera out in such a rain!

L pretending to seize a video girl.
quotes on the chalk walls of the miniature classroom. interesting stuff people write!
photos are really crappy. how i wished i had been more diligent to bring my camera out with care. i went "if only...if only" when i see my friends happily snapping away with their cameras.
J said, "all photographers are voyeurs." how true.
a piece from "black is my last weapon" exhibition by Masriadi. some dark humour he has.
apparently the artist likes batman.

and this is one of my fav. LOL.

indeed, contemporary is the name of the game here. it's worth a visit especially since it's free till 29 August. there are more exhibits actually, but i didn't take photos of all. actually some galleries do not allow phototaking, but it seemed to us some of the minders aren't too strict about it. they see a camera hanging around your neck, they tell you no phototaking. but that's about it!

很有万里晴空的感觉。

this space is white like a blank canvas. almost.

which is kinda what i had in mind for the journal shift. i had like my old journal, but what makes me shift here were some of the people who read it. a friends-only journal don't make much sense on the WWW to me. came to a point where a new place will be what i need, like a breather.

which may not be a bad thing afterall.

as a result, i have no idea now how i should re-introduce this space to people.

there are a million ways and one, all new and different and exciting!

in fact, i'm starting to like the idea of being fresh & crisp here.

hello hello.
